frequently asked questions
DO I NEED A FISHING LICENCE?
Yes, a TIDAL WATERS fishing licence is required. Children under the age of 16 are free but must still obtain a licence. You can buy a tidal waters licence online or at any nearby tackle shop. Fishing licences must be carried with you at all times, and if you purchase your licence online, you must print it off and carry it with you. Also ensure your licence has a SALMON TAG.
For more details and to purchase your fishing licence, go to: https://fishingbc.com/licences/
WHAT DO YOU DO WITH OUR FISH?
You may keep your fish in accordance with the local fishing regulations. We will clean or fillet your fish at the end of the day and prepare for transport. Or, as an option, we can have your catch portion cut, vacuum packed, and flash frozen for a fee.
DO I NEED TO HAVE ANY FISHING EXPERIENCE?
You don’t need to have any experience. In fact, we encourage new fishers to join us and enjoy the experience for the first time! We will teach you how everything works along the way so you have a fun time out on the water.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING WITH ME?
We will supply all the fishing and safety gear for you, but there are some important items you should wear or bring with you:
-
A warm, preferably waterproof jacket and/or sweater. It can be cold and damp out of the water, especially if we’re departing at first light and there is some morning fog or rain. We also recommend these jackets or sweaters not be your ‘nice’ clothing, rather something you’re comfortable with getting a little salty or dirty.
-
Pants and closed-toed shoes. The last thing we want is for you to accidently have your toe or leg hooked, so we recommend you wear pants and closed-toed shoes. Running shoes or hiking boots work best.
-
Your TIDAL WATERS fishing licence with SALMON TAG. This is important. Don’t forget this.
WHERE DO WE MEET YOU ON THE DAY OF OUR TRIP?
For May - September peak season trips out of Ucluelet, we will meet at the Small Craft Harbours located at 200 Hemlock Street in Ucluelet, BC. Please arrive 2 minutes before we depart as we will need to do a short introduction and a rundown of our trip and safety measures before we depart.
Directions: As you come into Ucluelet, turn left onto Hemlock St. at the West Coast Motel sign. You will go down a small hill, past the Small Craft Harbours sign and immediately on your left there will be a large parking lot. Park there and head to the far left corner of the parking lot where you will see the walkway down to the dock (ramp to the left of the Floathouse Restaurant walkway). Head straight down the dock to finger #, and there you will run into Andrew!
For November - May winter season trips out of the Comox Valley, we will arrange to meet at either the Deep Bay boat lauch or Comox Marina. We will arrange these details with you prior to the day of your trip and provide detailed directions.
